NordicTrack Brand Overview
NordicTrack is a global leader in exercise equipment. The brand debuted in 1975 out of Minnesota and gained fame for their impressive cross-country ski machines. NordicTrack expanded significantly in the 1990s, adding exercise bikes, treadmills, ellipticals and rowing machines to their lineup. At first these machines were manufactured in the US, but since 1998 they’ve been made in China. The brand is now owned by ICON Health & Fitness and headquartered in Utah. Their customer service agents are also in the US.
Even after decades in the business, NordicTrack continues to innovate. In 2009, they introduced incline trainers. They also update their electronics on a regular basis. Many shoppers are wooed by NordicTrack cardio trainers with touchscreen monitors, web browsers, tablet computer holders, iFit technology, and other perks. NordicTrack Upright Bikes
Upright bikes (aka stationary bikes) follow the classic exercise bike design. They’re appropriate for weight loss and cardio training.
NordicTrack makes two upright bikes: the GX 4.4 Pro and GX 4.6 Pro. These bikes have several similarities:
- Both have flywheels of 19 pounds. This weight provides a pretty smooth ride and is appropriate for the bikes’ price points of $799 and $999.
- Both exercise bikes have plenty of built-in workouts and can be used with iFit for an infinite variety of interactive workouts. Draw any route in Google Maps, then experience it virtually with your bike.
- Each bike supports wireless heart monitoring but only the GX 4.6 Pro is sold with a compatible chest strap.
- Other similarities include quiet magnetic resistance and adjustable cushioned seats.
Although the NordicTrack GX 4.6 Pro has a slightly higher weight capacity than the GX 4.4 Pro, these exercise bikes have the same dimensions. The most obvious difference between the two is the type of console display (LCD or touchscreen with web browser).
GX 4.4 Pro
The GX 4.4 Pro Exercise Bike is packed with workout support. First, riders can choose from 28 built-in apps and track their progress on a backlit LCD. Second, the bike is iFit-enabled. iFit’s interactive workouts can be accessed through your own tablet computer, which can be held by a bracket at the top of the console.
Key specs for the NordicTrack GX 4.4 Pro are a 19-pound flywheel, 22 resistance levels and a 300-pound user weight capacity. Cardio rate sensors are built into the handlebars and the bike is compatible with a Bluetooth Smart chest strap (not included) for wireless heart rate monitoring. GX 4.6 Pro
The GX 4.6 Pro Exercise Bike offers a full-color 7” touchscreen as the control center for workouts and entertainment. Here you can choose from 32 built-in apps, use iFit, or browse the web. This bike also has a bracket to hold your own tablet computer at eye level.
Key specs for the NordicTrack GX 4.6 Pro are a 19-pound flywheel, 24 resistance levels and a 325-pound user weight capacity. Cardio rate sensors are built into the handlebars and a chest strap is included for wireless pulse monitoring. Warranty: Lifetime Frame, 3-Year Parts, 1-Year Labor.

NordicTrack Recumbent Bikes
Recumbent exercise bikes have high seat backs and let you recline as you ride. This allows you to cycle with less stress on your joints. NordicTrack makes two recumbent exercise bikes for home gyms: the Commercial VR23 and the Commercial VR25 Elite. Each is named for its commercial steel frame and its flywheel weight (The VR23 has a 23-pound drive and the VR25 has a 25-pound drive). Both have 26 resistance levels and can hold up to 350 pounds.
Each bike ships with over 30 built-in apps and is iFit-enabled. Both have tablet computer brackets as well. The big difference between the VR23 and VR25 is the console display. While the VR23 has a backlit LCD, the VR25 has a touchscreen with web browser.

NordicTrack Sports Bikes
NordicTrack sports bikes or spin bikes are designed for high-intensity training. Compared with other types of indoor exercise bikes, these feel the closest to road bikes. They have heavy flywheels, chain drives, manual resistance, and racing handlebars. NordicTrack’s two sports bikes are the GX 3.0 Sport Cycle and the GX 5.0 Sport. Both have steel frames and heavy drives to ensure incredibly smooth operation. The GX 5.0 is much more durable.
GX 5.0 Sport
The GX 5.0 Sport is a big step up from NordicTrack’s cheapest spin bike. Here are three important differences between the NordicTrack GX 5.0 and GX 3.0:
- The GX 3.0 doesn’t provide workout data. The GX 5.0 has a data console and a wireless heart rate receiver. A backlit screen displays speed, time, distance, calories burned, and pulse.
- The GX 3.0 receives many complaints for its uncomfortable seating. The GX 5.0 has a saddle with better cushioning.
- The GX 5.0 has a much better parts warranty. Replacements are free for two years instead of just 90 days.
The GX 5.0 Sport’s a 48-pound flywheel provides very smooth performance and can support serious competitive training. The pedals have straps on one side and toe cages on the other when extra stability is desired. The rider can adjust the bike’s resistance system with a knob during workouts.
