What Makes Tradclimbers Different?

Combining 3 workouts in 1 trainer burns more calories than traditional fitness equipment, and that’s the major difference Bowflex was going for when designing what has become their most popular product line.

This new style of exercise combines the forward motion of a treadmill, with the stepping effect of a stair climber, and a smooth elliptical motion. What does that mean for you?

You can get a better workout than walking or jogging, in less time, without the joint impact of running. Plus, it’ll make you feel less tired, which will help you stay motivated to keep making progress toward your fitness goals.

How Does a TreadClimber Work to Reduce Impact?

There has long been a myth that running is bad on the knees. This has largely been disproven along with claims it can lead to arthritis. However, it is known to exacerbate issues like knee damage. Continuing to run on a bad knee can cause serious, extensive issues.

So, just how does a TreadClimber work to reduce impact? It’s because the treadles rise to meet your feet as you go through the motions. This allows for smooth, low-impact movemets. It can take as long as three days to rest an injured knee. During this time, you begin to lose structural fitness.

Unlike endurance, structural fitness takes longer to gain and is easier to lose even after just a few days. When lost, you put yourself at an increased risk for further injury. You can see how this spirals into a counterproductive pit that can become detrimental to your overall health and fitness.

Science

Motion of the Bowflex TreadClimberI needed proof and more detail on how and why it works (how you can burn a lot of calories by just walking), so here’s what I found in my research:

Some people ask why they can’t “just walk” around the block or at the mall, but the patented 3-in-1 motion is the reason it burns so many more calories than walking or jogging.

That’s awesome, but the most interesting thing I found is a study that showed why it makes you feel less tired, even though it burns more calories as a treadmill at the same speed.

It’s because it causes less of something called Blood Lactate (mmol), which is lactic acid buildup from a workout. That’s the stuff that makes people feel exhausted after exercising, which can make it hard to stay motivated.

So, since it causes 12% less lactic acid buildup than treadmills, and 38% less than ellipticals, that makes it easier to keep working out and getting results.

That’s the key to me, because you don’t want to burn out, you want to consistently make progress over time, and this unique design helps you do just that.

That’s the reason it’s so highly-rated…it allows you to burn more calories, and feel better, so you can stick with it and achieve your fitness goals.

Three Workouts in One… How?

You may be wondering how the TreadClimber works to provide three workouts in one. It’s actually pretty simple:

  • The forward-moving belts allow you to take advantage of the benefits of walking.
  • As you step forward, you have to move your foot upward as though you’re walking up stairs.
  • It allows for smooth, low-impact elliptical motion.

Is the TreadClimber Right for You?

Shopping has changed tremendously since the advent of the Internet. With the ability to buy online, you don’t have to waste time driving around, and you can even save money by cutting out the middleman. However, you don’t get the chance to try it out before you buy. When you count on thorough TreadClimber reviews, you can often learn more than you would buying in person.

Let’s face it. Salesmen want to make a sale. They will often do whatever they can to avoid discussing potential downfalls. However, honest TreadClimber reviews tell you both the good and the bad. It’s my goal that you find the product that’s best suited for your unique needs. Just a few signs the TreadClimber could help you reach your fitness goals include:

  • You’ve had knee injuries in the past
  • You want a solution to help you burn more calories while walking
  • You want to tone your lower body
  • You need to support your cardiovascular health
  • You appreciate built-in motivation and customizable workout programs

FAQ

From talking with hundreds of people over the years, here’s a list of answers to the most common questions:

Q: Does it actually burn a lot of calories?
A: Yes. I was skeptical about this at first too, but it burns more calories than walking or jogging, and it burns more calories than a treadmill or elliptical used at the same speed. The key with that is the fact that most people don’t do a brisk walk on a treadmill (3-4mph), but another way of looking at it is that when you work out at 4mph on the TreadClimber you’ll burn about the same amount of calories you would running ~6mph on a treadmill. That’s part of the reason it makes you feel less tired after exercising, which makes it easier to stay motivated and keep making progress.

Q: Is there an option to have someone assemble it for me?
A: Yes. You have the option to assemble it yourself with the help of their assembly walkthrough videos, or you can pay to have the delivery service assemble, setup, calibrate and test it for you, and answer any questions you have for $249 in most areas. If you don’t want the added cost, the assembly videos are very helpful.

Q: What is the minimum ceiling height?
A: For the TC200, the max distance from the floor is 17″, so for some extra headroom, I would recommend adding about 20″ to your height to make sure your ceiling is tall enough. For the TC100, add about 17″ to your height.

Q: Do the treadles move up and down on their own?
A: The up and down movement of the treadles requires action on the part of the user.

Q: What if I want to run or do interval training?
A: If you’re already into running but are looking for a zero-impact workout like the TreadClimber, Bowflex designed another machine called the Max Trainer that’s better for faster-paced interval training.

Q: How does the warranty work? What if something breaks?
A: The warranty is full-coverage, meaning anything that happens to the machine can be fixed free of charge (within reason of course; you can’t take a baseball bat to it and get it replaced :)). I’ve called in about an issue once in the past, and their support team walked me through a potential fix over the phone. When that didn’t do the trick, they sent a replacement part and helped me install it. They were very helpful. The warranty lasts 2 years for the TC100, and 3 years for the TC200. Beyond that, you can order replacement parts, and the resale value is very high if you decide to sell it and replace it with a newer model years down the road.

Q: Is there a money-back guarantee?
A: Yes. If you don’t feel like it’s a good investment, you can call or email Bowflex within 6 weeks to get a return number and ship it back to get a refund of the full purchase price. They sell direct instead of in stores (a big part of the reason we’ve done our in-depth reviews), which means no middleman markups, woohoo! The downside is that you can’t try it out first, but with this 6-week money back guarantee the only risk is in the shipping. Plus, their customer support team is super helpful in my experience, so if a part needs replaced at some point you’ll be well taken care of. In the past 5 years of talking with hundreds of customers, I’ve heard of very few people returning theirs. It works, which is why 1,000’s of people have rated it 4.4/5 stars (90% overall rating).

Q: Is It Difficult to Store Your TreadClimber?
A: The TreadClimber doesn’t fold up. However, it’s not large. Using the built-in transport wheels, it’s very easy to move your TreadClimber around.

Q: How can I get the best price?
