What Makes Tradclimbers Different?

Combining 3 workouts in 1 trainer burns more calories than traditional fitness equipment, and that’s the major difference Bowflex was going for when designing what has become their most popular product line.

This new style of exercise combines the forward motion of a treadmill, with the stepping effect of a stair climber, and a smooth elliptical motion. What does that mean for you?

You can get a better workout than walking or jogging, in less time, without the joint impact of running. Plus, it’ll make you feel less tired, which will help you stay motivated to keep making progress toward your fitness goals.

How Does a TreadClimber Work to Reduce Impact?

There has long been a myth that running is bad on the knees. This has largely been disproven along with claims it can lead to arthritis. However, it is known to exacerbate issues like knee damage. Continuing to run on a bad knee can cause serious, extensive issues.

So, just how does a TreadClimber work to reduce impact? It’s because the treadles rise to meet your feet as you go through the motions. This allows for smooth, low-impact movemets. It can take as long as three days to rest an injured knee. During this time, you begin to lose structural fitness.

Unlike endurance, structural fitness takes longer to gain and is easier to lose even after just a few days. When lost, you put yourself at an increased risk for further injury. You can see how this spirals into a counterproductive pit that can become detrimental to your overall health and fitness.

I needed proof and more detail on how and why it works (how you can burn a lot of calories by just walking), so here’s what I found in my research:

Some people ask why they can’t “just walk” around the block or at the mall, but the patented 3-in-1 motion is the reason it burns so many more calories than walking or jogging.

That’s awesome, but the most interesting thing I found is a study that showed why it makes you feel less tired, even though it burns more calories as a treadmill at the same speed.

It’s because it causes less of something called Blood Lactate (mmol), which is lactic acid buildup from a workout. That’s the stuff that makes people feel exhausted after exercising, which can make it hard to stay motivated.

So, since it causes 12% less lactic acid buildup than treadmills, and 38% less than ellipticals, that makes it easier to keep working out and getting results.

That’s the key to me, because you don’t want to burn out, you want to consistently make progress over time, and this unique design helps you do just that.

That’s the reason it’s so highly-rated…it allows you to burn more calories, and feel better, so you can stick with it and achieve your fitness goals.

Three Workouts in One… How?

You may be wondering how the TreadClimber works to provide three workouts in one. It’s actually pretty simple:

  • The forward-moving belts allow you to take advantage of the benefits of walking.
  • As you step forward, you have to move your foot upward as though you’re walking up stairs.
  • It allows for smooth, low-impact elliptical motion.

Here’s a quick video of the TreadClimber commercial to see how it works:

Is the TreadClimber Right for You?

Shopping has changed tremendously since the advent of the Internet. With the ability to buy online, you don’t have to waste time driving around, and you can even save money by cutting out the middleman. However, you don’t get the chance to try it out before you buy. When you count on thorough TreadClimber reviews, you can often learn more than you would buying in person.

Let’s face it. Salesmen want to make a sale. They will often do whatever they can to avoid discussing potential downfalls. However, honest TreadClimber reviews tell you both the good and the bad. It’s my goal that you find the product that’s best suited for your unique needs. Just a few signs the TreadClimber could help you reach your fitness goals include:

  • You’ve had knee injuries in the past
  • You want a solution to help you burn more calories while walking
  • You want to tone your lower body
  • You need to support your cardiovascular health
  • You appreciate built-in motivation and customizable workout programs

Throughout our correspondence with hundreds of customers over the years, here are some of the most frequently asked questions about this machine.

Q: Will you actually burn as many calories as they say you do?

This is a great question and one we get time and time again. Many people are skeptical because it is a lot of calories to be burning. But when you take into account that you are working both the upper and the lower body with this machine and you are also on an incline much like that of a stepper (or a treadmill set on a high incline), to say these machines are intense would be an understatement.

While obviously you can adjust the intensity as you see fit, if you do put it on a high intensity and perform the training for an appreciable amount of time, you will be burning up calories very quickly.

Because there is no impact on these machines however, they don’t feel as intense as what it would feel if you were working at the same level on a treadmill. You’d have to run very fast to burn the same number of calories that you burn while using this machine.

Q: Can I get it assembled in my own home? I hate setting these things up!
A: Yes. If you would prefer not to set this up at home, then you can purchase our assembly service, which includes bringing the machine into your home, calibrating it, and testing it for you. We will also walk you through any questions you may have about the machine. This service costs $249 in most city areas. If you’d prefer not to pay this, we remind you that we have plenty of assembly instruction videos that you can watch to help guide you through the process. Most people find these to be sufficient.

Q: How tall do my ceilings have to be to fit the machine?
A: For the TC200, you’ll want to have 17 inches of height from the floor, so to ensure that you have sufficient room while standing on it, you’ll want to add 20 inches to your height. So for instance, if you are 70 inches, you’ll want your floor to ceiling measurement to be approximately 90 inches in length. The TC100 is a bit smaller however, so you’ll only need to add 17 inches to your height as the minimum distance from the floor is just 14 inches with this one.

Q: Will the treadles move up and down or do I have to do this?
A: In order to move the treadles up and down, you will need to manually adjust them.

Q: Can I do interval training on this machine?
A: With so many people jumping onto the interval training bandwagon, we get this question a lot. While you can do some light interval training with this one, you’ll want to consider purchasing the Max Trainer instead if interval training is really your thing as it’s better designed to handle that style of workout.

Q: What is the warranty on this machine?
A: You’ll get a full coverage warranty on this machine, so that if anything breaks, the machine is fixed free of charge. This assumes normal user wear and tear, not something that you actually physically did to break the machine. This full coverage warranty lasts for two years for the TC100 and three years for the TC200. If it happens to break down beyond this time period, then you can still get a replacement part for it and be walked through how to install that piece.

Q: Does this machine come with a money back guarantee? What if I don’t like it?
A: Not to worry, you’re covered. If, for whatever reason, you feel this is not the machine for you, no problem. Just call or email Bowflex within six weeks and get a return number. Ship it back and get a refund of the full purchase price. The only risk to you is going to be the return shipping price. We’ve seen very limited people returning this machine because most people truly do love it.

Q: Is It Difficult to Store Your TreadClimber?
A: While this machine isn’t foldable, it isn’t that large either, so you can easily move it around with the wheels that are built into the machine and you’ll be able to store it as you please.

Q: How can I get the best price?
A: To help get the best price possible, make sure that you check out our coupon code section here.

Which TreadClimber is best for you?

Our personal favorite is the TC100 as it gives you great value and you get a lot of machine with so many different setting options. If you do want to have custom user profiles and a heart rate monitor however, or prefer to have that longer warranty coverage, then you might consider stepping it up and going with the TC200 model instead.
