Cybex Arc Trainers are high-end alternatives to elliptical machines. These unique cross trainers have arc-shaped footpaths instead of ellipse-shaped paths -- enabling exercise that’s gentler on the knees and also more effective than elliptical motion at calorie burn and muscle sculpting. All Cybex Arc Trainers for this year have variable stride so that adults of any size can climb, stride or glide for fitness.
Some Arc Trainers are strictly lower body trainers. Others are total body trainers with moving handlebars. Cybex Arc Trainer Ellipticals Buying Guide
This quick guide helps introduce the Cybex fitness brand and the six Arc Trainers for this year: the 525AT, 625A, 625AT, 770A, 770AT and the Total Access Trainer.
About Cybex
Cybex International, Inc. is nearly 50 years old and has become a favored brand among higher-end fitness facilities and luxury shoppers. This American manufacturer manages its own research center, customer service center, and factories in the USA. The factories produce commercial-quality fitness machines, and reps sell the products with a choice of commercial and home use warranties. The full Cybex fitness equipment collection includes about 150 pieces, including a dozen Total Access machines to accommodate trainees with low vision and other physical or cognitive challenges. Customer service is available during regular business hours Monday through Friday.
Lower Body Arc Trainers
Cybex has two Lower Body Arc Trainers for this year, the 625A and 770A. Pricing starts a bit lower than for the Full Body Arc Trainers because moving handlebars aren’t included. The focus is on lower body training with the trainee’s choice of a gliding, striding or climbing motion. This allows for seamless target-toning of different muscle groups from the calves to the glutes.
The Cybex 625A and 770A have the same machine components, but different standard consoles. Each has a 4.3″ LED screen with access to eight preset workout programs in the categories Weight Loss, Strength and Cardio. Each program can be used at ten levels. Additionally the machines can be used with a wireless chest strap for heart rate control. Both consoles support MP3 audio from an iPod or iPhone. With the 770A, trainees also get two Shaping workout programs and modes called Adaptive Power and Constant Power. The 770A is also enhanced with a two-speed fan and can charge mobile devices.
Both the 625A and 770A can be upgraded with the premiere Cybex console, the E3 View HD. It features a 15.6″ high-definition screen for accessing unlimited high-quality training programs as well as the Internet, on-demand TV programs and other entertainment via Cybex GO.
Total Body Arc Trainers
Total Body Arc Trainers support the same low-impact lower body motion as Lower Body trainers, plus they have moving arm bars. Compared with similar elliptical machines they can be almost twice as effective at sculpting your upper body. The four Total Body Arc Trainers are the 525AT, 625AT, 770AT and the Total Access Trainer.
525AT
The 525AT could be best for a workout room with limited space. It’s smaller than the other models and also has a lighter maximum resistance setting. Even so, with max resistance of 600 Watts — and a max user weight capacity of 400 pounds — it’s most definitely commercial strength.
The 525AT can be upgraded with the 15.6″ high-def screen and Cybex GO access. For the base price though, this model has a console with 4.3″ screen that can show eight preset workout programs in the categories Weight Loss, Strength and Cardio. Each program can be used at 10 challenge levels. The Arc Trainer can also be use in manual mode with the user controlling the speed and resistance.
625AT and Total Access Trainer
The 625AT and the Total Access Trainer are especially similar to each other, but machines in the Total Access collection have high-contrast coloring, raised iconography on the console, and other adaptations for people with different cognitive, sensory or physical needs. Max resistance on these units is 900 Watts.
The standard workout programming on these units is the same as for the 525AT, plus trainees get the option of heart rate control. A wireless audio receiver can be added, or — for the 625AT but not the Total Access Model — the whole console can be upgraded to the 15.6″ screen with Cybex GO connection for high-def video workouts, a web browser and live and on-demand TV shows and music videos.
770 AT
The top-of-the-line Cybex 770AT is the best Arc Trainer for a demanding gym environment. Beginners through advanced athletes can train for cardio, strength and weight management on one fitness machine. The 770AT is a step above the impressive 625AT for the four additional workout modes on its default console: Shaping (2), Adaptive Power and Constant Power. It’s also the only Total Body Arc Trainer that has a cooling fan and can charge mobile devices.
Like the other standard Arc Trainers the 770AT can be upgraded with wireless audio or with a 15.6″ monitor for Cybex GO. Cybex Go is a subscription service that delivers high quality workout programming, plus it has viewing modes for the web, live TV and on-demand programming.
