Cybex R Series Review

Quick Summary

The Cybex R Series Treadmill is one of the premiere treadmills in the industry; built on the cornerstone of the Cybrex brand long known for its quality and attention to optimal athletic performance. Although it can fit perfectly into a home gym, the expensive price tag and the 8HP motor, durability and features make it better suited for a commercial gym, where there is  a constant flow of runners at varying degrees of fitness levels.

For those serious runners, the tread belt allows for up to 14 mph whether it is on their custom workout program or one created by the master trainers of the Cybex Institute. The wide running track offers that extra confidence for those faster paced sessions.  As sleek as it is smart, you can customize colour to fit into your gym’s interior design and choose between a 70T or 50L console. The bluetooth capability allows one to keep track of progress as well as entertained.

Although it is one of the best in its class of treadmills, we do find it to be a little pricey. As well, the warranty is average, albeit customer response is that very little if any assistance was needed for faulty equipment within 10 years of ownership.

Our Rating

Rating: 88/100. As far as aesthetics, this treadmill looks sleek and the customer is able to choose the color of the frame to fit in with their decor. As soon as one steps on the running track the quality of the materials used is evident – built to last. The biomechanics research used to build the suspension will be appreciated by your joints, if not immediately definitely down the line. It is a fairly large track and takes up some space; which may be a draw back if space is limited. There is a choice of two consoles: the 50L and 70T. The 50L is the LED standard console, user friendly big buttons screen, while the 70T allows for an integrated touch TV screen. It’s always good to have an option, however, most runners are not particularly interested in watching TV in such close proximity as they run. The 15% incline and the 14 mph speed – offers the serious runner (or training session) the intensity and push for the next level. Workout programs include  Quick Start, and six Cybex legacy workouts – Speed Bump, Rollers, and Hill Interval 2.

The Cybex brand has a good reputation for making  good quality, durable equipment that lasts for years without any problems. So you would think that the warranty could be a little better since there is unlikely to be any big problems.

It’s one of the top brands used by some of the most elite gyms because of its proven record however, the price point is high.

Next are lists of pros and cons about this treadmill deal.

Pros:

  • Cybex has a solid reputation on quality – durability and longevity
  • IS3 technology cushion- aligns with runner’s stride to reduce injury
  • Strong motors
  • Workouts programmed in console are specifically created for the Cybex treadmill by the Cybex master trainers. Once personal info. is added at the beginning of the workout, the  programs adjust to runner’s specifics.
  • Custom Colours : The Cybex R series allows for shoppers to choose from a selection of colours for the treadmill frame.
  • Halo Fitness Cloud: Allows tracking of equipment usage and exerciser traffic patterns.

Cons:

  • Although it is a premium treadmill, it is a little on the pricey side.
  • TV monitor-not a necessity especially for those who are serious about running.
  • For a company that has placed so much work in their machines, and has a reputation for producing top tier treadmills,  the warranty could be better.
