Our Rating

Rating: 77.9/100. The Proform Dual Trainer Bike/Rower is a hybrid that includes a recumbent bike and a rowing machine. Together these two machines offer a full body workout for all fitness levels. You can build strength and muscle tone with the rower and improve your cardio fitness with the recumbent bike.

The 20 resistance levels guarantee a challenging workout whether you’re a beginner or an advanced user and as you move to new levels the SMR™ Silent Magnetic Resistance make the transitions smooth and quiet.

24 pre-programmed workouts are on board—12 for performance and 12 for burning calories. Created by certified personal trainers the programs are further broken down and designed specifically for each machine with 12 for the rower and 12 for the recumbent bike. The programs will definitely challenge beginner and intermediate users, but more advances riders/rowers may need to craft their own workouts on the machine to get the most out of their efforts.

The built-in target pacer is akin to having a personal trainer keeping you on point. It tracks your effort against your fitness goals and, using light signals, encourages you to either speed up or slow down.

The large LCD screen makes it easy to view and follow your workout and results. The stats available include your speed, distance, time, calories burned and rpm. One strike against the dual trainer is a lack of a heart rate sensor/monitor which is a standard inclusion for a machine like this.

Ergonomic features, like a padded seat that adjusts to your frame and a soft touch handle designed to minimize hand fatigue, make for a more comfortable workout, allowing you to focus on your goal rather than be distracted by general discomfort.

Footrests keep your feet comfortable and securely in place.

The weight capacity is 350 lbs. which can accommodate most users.

The SpaceSaver® design and the transport wheels make it nice and easy to fold up and move once you have finished working out.

Pros:

  • 2-in-1 machine—get a full body workout from a single machine
  • 24 on-board workouts designed by personal trainers are split between bike and rower as well as calorie-burning vs. performance.
  • 20 levels of resistance promise a challenge for all fitness levels.
  • Large LCD monitor is easy to use. View your calories burned, rpm, distance, time and speed.
  • Built-in target pacer is like having your own personal trainer motivating through lights that indicate when you need to speed up or slow down to reach your goals.
  • Inertia enhanced flywheel works smoothly and quietly as you go back and forth between resistance levels.
  • Ergonomic touches like a padded seat that adjusts for your comfort and soft touch handles designed to minimize hand fatigue.
  • SpaceSaver® design and transport wheels make it easy to fold and move.
  • Footrests with straps keep feet in place.
  • Weight capacity of 350 lbs means most people can use it.

Cons:

  • Although it is a 2-in-1 and gives you a good full body workout, for the rowing enthusiast this is not on the same level as a single-purpose rowing machine.
  • No heart rate sensor/monitor
  • Quality control: It seems some customers have received machines that were not aligned properly; so you take the risk of receiving a poorly made machine.

Introduction

The Proform Dual Trainer Bike/Rower is a hybrid two-in-one machine—both a recumbent bike and a rowing machine. The combination of the two provides you with the option to get a full body workout with the rower building strength and toning muscles and the recumbent improving your cardio fitness. It comes pre-programmed with 24 workouts and 20 levels of resistance as well as five different workout stats you can monitor. It easily folds up after a workout and can be stored out of the way.

Workout Programs

The Proform Dual Trainer Bike/Rower comes with 24 on-board workouts created by certified personal trainers—12 for performance and 12 for calorie burning. They’re further broken down to accommodate each machine—six performance and six calorie-burning for the rower and the same options for the recumbent bike. The trainer also has 20 resistance levels, from light to butt-burning. The wide range in selection provides full-body development from beginner to advanced.

Proform Dual Trainer Bike/Rower Features

Built-in Target Pacer: The pacer keeps track of your goals and, using light signals, lets you know when you need to increase or decrease your speed.

Large LCD monitor: Large, user friendly console tracks calories burned, rpm, distance, time and speed.

Ergonomic Seat: Padded, adjustable seat fits individual riders/rowers.

Ergonomic Soft Touch Handles: Padded and designed for comfort and cuts down on hand fatigue.

Warranty & Guarantee

The Proform Dual Trainer Bike/Rower warranty includes:

– Frame: Lifetime Warranty

– Parts and Labor: One year

Conclusion

The Proform Dual Trainer Bike Rower is a solid two–in-one piece of fitness equipment. Though it isn’t for the serious rower, who will be better served by a single-purpose rowing machine, it works well for everyone else. The 24 programs and 20 resistance levels, along with the ergonomic features, provide a fairly comfortable way to get a challenging workout regardless of your fitness level. What we’d consider to be the main benefit of the Dual Trainer is that you can get two kinds of workouts—strength training and cardio—in a single machine. If you’ve got limited space and you want a machine that can deliver a full body workout for a reasonable price, this is a good choice.
