Precor Bikes Buying Guide

The Buying Guide gives you some insight into the company and a little background on the bikes manufactured by Precor along with a few suggestions on the best value purchases.

About Precor

Precor is a globally recognized fitness brand that launched in the 80’s as Precision Corporation. It began with ergonomic rowing machines and then cemented it’s innovative image and leadership in the fitness industry with the creation of elliptical trainers and cushioned treadmills. Precor believes in responsible business practices when it comes to the environment and human health; their headquarters are Leed CI Gold certified, which means the building is sustainable – it uses less energy, saves water, generates less waste and supports a healthy working environment  (design, construction operation and manufacturing). Precor is now a subsidiary of the Amer Sports Corporation, a Finnish company that also owns other sporting brands, Salomon, Arc’teryx, Peak Performance, Atomic, Mavic, Suunto and Wilson.

Precor Stationary Exercise Bikes

Precor manufactures light commercial and commercial grade stationary exercise bikes; uprights, recumbents and spin. They come in three collections: Assurance Series (600 series), Experience Series (800 series) and Precor Spinners. The Assurance is for light commercial use while the Experience series is commercial (club) grade. The differences between the bikes in the Experience series  are the consoles, the mechanics and motion are the same. The 600 series is more basic, and there is only one choice of console for this selection.

Precor Commercial vs. Precor Light Commercial

The difference between the commercial and light commercial is the expectation of use. Equipment for gyms/clubs need to be sturdier as the use is daily, several times per day; where users pay membership fees to workout. Light commercial means places like hotels, physical therapy centers where the use is not as frequent or demanding.

Precor Commercial Series

Precor commercial options, the Experience or 800 series, are Precor’s top tier bikes in durability and quality; made for consistent use by different users of varying abilities and sizes. They come in both recumbent and upright designs. They are also the most expensive offering of the bikes; ranging in price from $3,925 to $7,395.

Best Value Precor Commercial Exercise Bikes

All the bikes in this series are great, but they are pricey. The best value buy would be the UBK 865. One of the things it has above the UBK 835 is the 860 Line Touch Screen Console (10”), which is becoming the norm for most exercise equipment and expected by most workout enthusiasts these days. It has 25 resistance levels, ergonomic riding positions, and contact heart rate reading. The drive system makes for quiet and comfortable rides. The belt system requires less maintenance.

Best Value Precor Spinners

The Precor Spinner Shift (belt or chain) is the best value for your mid level option. It is designed to be used in clubs and so will be durable and last for many years. The console (sold separately)  monitors cadence, time, heart rate, and calories.
