Our Rating

Rating: 91.4/100. The NordicTrack A.C.T. Commercial 10 leads its collection, the Mid-Mech Commercial Series Ellipticals. While it’s sized for convenient home use, this center drive elliptical feels sturdy like a health club fitness machine and is a comfortable, smooth challenge for all but the strongest and heaviest trainees.

Key specs include: a quiet magnetic resistance system with 25-pound flywheel; a 10″ touch screen for showing preloaded workouts, iFit® workouts and the web; and an adjustable stride length with ¼-inch increments from 18″ to 22″.

Sale priced at $1,499 this is among the best elliptical models for a wide range of skill levels and body types. At full price though, we’d probably pass. Here are pros and cons to consider about the A.C.T. Commercial 10.

Pros:

  • Space efficient (54″ x 31.5″ footprint)
  • High weight capacity (350 pounds)
  • 25-pound flywheel
  • Silent Magnetic Resistance (SMR™)
  • Console buttons for easy resistance control
  • 18″ to 22″ stride choices (¼” increments)
  • Moving arm bars for a full-body workout
  • 35 built-in workout apps
  • iFit-enabled for unlimited workout downloads
  • Full color 10″ touch screen for workouts and the web
  • Android browser
  • Tablet computer holder
  • iPod-compatible (Port and 3″ speakers)
  • Heart rate monitors (Touch sensors and wireless chest strap included)
  • Water bottle holder
  • Center drive design supports easy balance
  • Long warranties on parts and labor

Cons:

  • No incline
  • Full price is high for an elliptical with 25-pound drive (Sale price is good)
  • NordicTrack’s customer service draws negative reviews

Alternatives

A popular alternative is the NordicTrack Elite 12.9. Compared with the A.C.T. Commercial 10, it’s an upgrade because it has a maximum 20 degree power ramp and a heavier drive (32 pounds versus 25). The Elite 12.9 sometimes costs less than the elliptical in this review too and has an even longer warranty!

Any compromises? By choosing the Elite 12.9 instead of the A.C.T. Commercial 10, you’ll get a smaller touch screen display and less variety in stride length.

Introduction

When sale priced at $1,499 the NordicTrack A.C.T. Commercial 10 is a top contender in its price class. Some of its practical-minded points from our “pros” list are the wide selection of stride lengths, rather powerful magnetic resistance and a generous warranty.

Fun features include the 10″ full color touch screen, Android web browser, iFit-enabled display and 3″ iPod®-compatible speakers… and that’s just a sampling. Read on for details about its workout programming and other specs.

Workout Programs

The NordicTrack A.C.T. Commercial 10 elliptical is preloaded with 35 workout apps. Thanks to its 10″ touch screen control panel, you can quickly choose from the generous menu. Each program was designed by a certified personal trainer to especially focus on either calorie burn, intensity or performance (endurance). Each program has a set duration and automatically changes the drive’s resistance. There are 24 resistance levels.

To expand your workout library, you can use this trainer with an iFit® membership. Using the 10″ touch screen you can train along with iFit’s high definition video workouts featuring leading personal trainers, download a custom-tailored elliptical workout every day, and enjoy an infinite variety of interactive Google Maps™ workouts.

With Google Maps™ workouts the elliptical’s 10″ screen can show an interactive Google Street View for your selected route. The options are literally infinite! Virtually train in your own neighborhood, along a famous race route, along a scenic coastline and so forth.

A possible shortcoming is that A.C.T ellipticals don’t have automated inclines. With most other NordicTrack ellipticals the Google Maps™ workouts are enhanced because the machines automatically incline their paths to mimic the rise and fall of chosen landscapes.

A.C.T. Commercial 10 Features

At first glance the standout feature on the A.C.T. Commercial 10 is the 10″ full-color touch screen with Internet browser. This is NordicTrack’s top option for accessing preloaded workouts, tracking your fitness stats, downloading iFit® workouts and staying connected with the web.

This NordicTrack A.C.T. elliptical is also distinguished by its stride choices. While other ellipticals offer stride variety, few offer the precision of ¼” increments. The range is 18″ to 22″ — ideal for petite users and tall trainees alike. Additionally the soft-grip handlebars for upper body training were designed with a wide range of user heights in mind.

For entertainment or multitasking, three main options are supported. First is the Internet browser with 10″ touch screen mentioned above. Second, you can use your own tablet computer during workouts by attaching it to the elliptical’s secure tablet holder. Third, you can integrate your MP3 player; the A.C.T. Commercial 10 has an iPod-compatible port and a sound system with 3″ speakers.

To help you stay in your target heart rate zone, the A.C.T. Commercial 10 includes a chest strap for wireless pulse monitoring. It also has contact pulse sensors on the handlebars.

The flywheel for this trainer weighs 25 pounds. It’s precision weighted to support a smooth ride and is the heaviest among A.C.T. Commercial ellipticals. That said, it isn’t the heaviest drive that NordicTrack offers. For more challenging workout sessions (and heavier trainees) other NordicTracks such as the Elite 12.9 are better choices.

Warranty & Guarantee

The NordicTrack A.C.T. Commercial 10 elliptical warranty includes:

– Frame: Lifetime
– Parts: 5 Years
– Labor: 2 Years

That’s a generous warranty at the $1,499 price point. NordicTrack also offers a 30-day money back guarantee.

Conclusion

The NordicTrack A.C.T. Commercial 10 is a great fit for many households. It offers a comfortable stride length for most trainees and is loaded with training guidance, a web browser and other perks.
