Introduction

The XTERRA TRX4500 Treadmill is a competitive deal for home fitness. Its console supports two user profiles, and the parts support everything from strolling to sprinting. Essentials include a 3.25 HP drive and a 60” x 20” training surface. This model is also equipped with power incline, a wireless heart rate transmitter, Bluetooth for fitness tracking, and other amenities. Below are details about the programming, parts, warranty and guarantee.

Workout Programs

Two users can store their profiles to the TRX4500 Treadmill console. Having a profile brings more accurate feedback, and it lets you store two customized routines to the treadmill computer. Additionally you can train with with manual mode, a heart rate control workout, and 30 preset programs for speed/incline training.

All 30 speed/incline workouts can be customized to run from five to 99 minutes. The heart rate control program can also be customized for time and your target heart rate. Its default is 116 beats per minute.

XTERRA TRX4500 Features

Bluetooth for data sharing is becoming more common on fitness machines, and the XTERRA TRX4500 is one of the first treadmills under $1000 to bring this benefit. You can pair an Android or Apple mobile device to automatically store your treadmill workout statistics in a mobile app. The free XTERRA Fitness apps are compatible with other mobile apps and wearable activity trackers.

The TRX4500 Treadmill has a 20″ x 60″ workout surface, just like typical club treadmills. All but the largest trainees will have ample room to exercise.

A 3.25 HP drive powers the tread belt and lets you sprint at up to 12 mph. It has a lifetime warranty.

Power incline can angle the deck by up to 15 percent. Incline can be automated by preset workout programs, or controlled with buttons on the handlebars and console.

Bordering the track are aluminum rails. For comparison, most treadmills under $1000 have thick plastic rails.

Exercise data are shown on a backlit 7.5” screen. The data window displays multiple stats at once.

Alongside the data window are buttons for making quick speed and incline changes. For example, with just a tap you can move from 3 mph to 5 mph. You can also adjust the speed and incline in smaller increments. Up/down buttons are built into the handlebars.

The TRX4500 is the only XTERRA treadmill to include a wireless heart rate transmitter, although all three XTERRAs are wireless compatible. You can wear the included chest strap to get a continuous wireless reading, which you can use with the heart rate controlled workout program. You can also get heart rate readings from contact sensors built into the machine’s crossbar.

XTERRA treadmill track belts are two-ply and above average for the under-$1000 price class. The TRX4500 is shipped with lubricant for the belt. The manual advises adding lubricant every 180 miles.

For safety a magnetic key with tether can stop the tread belt if you slip. The magnet also prevents unauthorized use of the machine; it needs to be in place for the belt to run.

Amenities include iPod-compatible speakers, a workout fan and water bottle storage.

The deck can be stored upright to clear floor space between workout sessions. You can easily push it into place with hydraulic assist.
