Treadmill vs Outside
People who love the outdoors generally wonder why, when nature is so beautiful, that you would prefer to workout inside?
It’s a very valid question and in all honestly, sometimes completely based on a person’s region, finances and/or personality. Yes, some people will always opt to exercise outside and there is nothing wrong with that preference. However, for the increasing majority, walking/jogging inside on a treadmill is making more and more sense.
Here are some of the biggest pros to working out inside on a treadmill…
- Affordable — Cost of buying a treadmill vs. Cost of a monthly gym membership
- Convenience — Treadmills are easy and quick to use
- Regional/Weather Issues — Do you find yourself less motivated to workout in the middle of the winter?
- Safety — Jogging/Running after dark in rough neighborhood
- Wealth of Knowledge — Variety of treadmill features provide knowledge, data, etc otherwise unknown
- Wear on Body — Treadmills produce less stress on joints when compared to running on street, sidewalk, etc
Let’s examine each benefit individually…
Treadmill Affordability
Treadmills may appear pricey at first glance but they are actually much cheaper than the alternative of paying a monthly gym membership. More and more people are turning to gyms because the variety of equipment is outstanding and the staff is always knowledgable about exercise and fitness.
However, treadmills have narrowed that gap because they provide a lot of the data and resouces on the LED/LCD display. Additionally, treadmills can completely take over the workout thanks to built-in programs that control everything from speed to incline to resistance.
Treadmill Comfort
Treadmill Convenience
You would be a fool to think that jogging/running outside is as convenient as working out on a treadmill. Obviously one of the biggest benefits to owning a treadmill is that you will save a lot of time and energy. Not only that, but thanks to groundbreaking features like quick controls, preset workout programs, pulse grips, LED display, etc, etc treadmills are as easy to use as ever before!
Owning a treadmill especially makes sense if you live in a region that endures a long winter. Long stretches of cold temperates, ice and/or snow make jogging/running outside practically impossible. By owning a treadmill, you never have to fear getting detered by nature’s elements.
Treadmill Safety
Do you work a standard 9 to 5 office/desk job in a big city? If so, by the time you commute and/or eat dinner you probably do not have time to workout before it gets dark outside. In some neighborhoods, it’s a little scary to exercise after dark. You do not want to jog in a dark and quiet park but the streets are unsafe because vehicles may not see you.
Again, treadmills are very convenient in that you can always workout from the comfort of your home. Combined with the added safety features (safety key, etc) and you will find that treadmills (when used properly) are perfectly safe for all ages and sizes.
