ProForm Fitness is a leading fitness brand owned by ICON, a company who manufactures treadmills and other fitness machines for home use. ProForm is known for offering tech-rich, interactive exercise machines, with treadmills at online sale prices currently ranging from $999 to $1,999.

What makes this brand “tech-rich” in our review? Colour touchscreens, built-in speakers (sometimes Bluetooth) and access to interactive training are ProForm hallmarks. Their machines are iFit-enabled, allowing you to enjoy personal training, workout programs with interactive Google Maps Street Views and much more. iFit allows you to virtually tour the world on your treadmill and gives you access to comprehensive personal training for fitness and nutrition — around the clock, indoors and out.

ProForm Treadmills Buying Guide

ProForm strives to offer something for everyone. This buying guide for ProForm treadmills focuses on their 2019 collection: the Pro Series, Power Series, and Performance Series. These collections all feature iFit Coach technology, but they have significant differences in terms of durability, performance, and price. We’ll also touch on ProForm’s Treadmill Desks.

ProForm Pro Treadmills

ProForm’s top-rated collection for 2019 is the Pro Series. Pro Series treadmills are distinguished by automated inclines and declines, strong motors, and top-of-line technology. This year the choices are the Pro 2000, Pro 5000 and Pro 9000. The web prices for these models are $1,499 (currently you can get the Pro 2000 free with a 3-year iFit membership for $39 per month), $1,499 and $1,799 respectively, but you can get even more money off these during online sales.ProForm SMART Pro 5000 Treadmills Main category image for the Pro 5000

Pro machines are virtually identical except for their motors and workout consoles. Across the line, the specs are impressive. The Pro 5000 treadmill has a spacious workout surface: 22″ wide x 60″ long, while the Pro 2000 and Pro 9000 each have a 20″ x 60″ area.. With these dimensions, tall runners get enough room to stretch out, and wide trainees get elbow room too. The maximum user weight capacity is 300 pounds across the board.

Most remarkable is the electronic incline/decline for your workout surface. The Pro 5000 model has track angle settings from -3% to +15%; the downhill option makes these cardio trainers special as the decline feature is rare in any price class. The other two models offer -3% to 12% which is sufficient for most users. What’s more, it’s a neat feature to use with iFit Coach Google Maps workouts, and incline training with a treadmill in general can increase your calorie burn rate, enhance the cardio challenge, and strengthen/tone your lower body.

Horsepower is impressive here, helping all three cardio trainers work well for frequent running as well as walking.

  • The Pro 2000 motor is the smallest — but with 3.25 CHP, it exceeds the norm for home treadmills for runners.
  • The Pro 5000 is equipped with a 3.75 CHP motor which is ideal for running, and it’s also a good match for shared treadmills.
  • The Pro 9000 supplies 3.6 CHP. That’s ample power for running and marathon treadmill training.

Finally, the workout consoles. All three have at least 40 preloaded training programs and can also work with iFit, giving you an expandable workout collection. The Pro 9000 sports a massive 22″ Smart HD touchscreen while the Pro 2000 and Pro 5000 have 10” Smart HD touchscreens on which  you can enjoy iFit Coach workouts.

Which treadmill is best? All three machines score well in our reviews, but this year the Pro 5000 is probably the best buy for most shoppers. It costs offers slightly better features than than the Pro 2000 at the same price.

ProForm Carbon Series Treadmills

The Carbon Series is overall a step down from the best-selling Pro Series, but it’s still a high-scoring collection for runners and walkers. Web prices for the Carbon T10 and Carbon T7 are just $1,403 and $999 respectively, but online sales pop up frequently with value-added benefits like free trials to the iFit fitness program.ProForm SMART Power 995i Treadmills SMART Power 995i

These fitness machines are sized with the home in mind. With slightly smaller track dimensions than their Pro Series counterparts, they offer a running space of 20″ wide x 55″ long which is probably sufficient for joggers and certainly walkers. Weight capacity is 300 lb. for both the Carbon T10 and T7, which is again, sufficient for most home users.

A power incline is included; with the Carbon T7 offerings settings up to 10% and the Carbon T10 up to 12%., but unlike the Pro Series, these machines don’t have downhill settings. Walking or running on an incline can boost your calorie burn, enhance the cardiovascular challenge, and sculpt/strengthen your lower body.

Choosing between these two models mainly comes down to the horsepower and screen size. The T7 features a 2.6 CHP motor and a 7” Smart HD Touchscreen. The T10 meanwhile offers a 2.75 CHP motor and a slightly larger 10” display. In both cases, the iFit Coach fitness app can be integrated with the user’s own mobile device or tablet.

Both Carbon treadmills are great buys when sale prices kick in. You’re getting a good deal when they’re at the $1,403 and $999 sale prices. This includes a 10-year frame warranty, 1-year parts warranty and 1-year labor warranty which is standard across the board for ProForm.

ProForm Performance Treadmills

Priced at just $999 and up, ProForm Performance cardio trainers are the cheapest machines in the brand’s 2019 roster. Technically these fitness machines can be used for running, but we’d only recommend them for walking and jogging. Running on these machines regularly could make them disposable.ProForm SMART Performance 600i Treadmills main category image for the Performance 600i Treadmill

What do these three models (the Performance 400i, the Performance 600i and the Performance 800i) have in common? To compare, here are the main areas they differ:

  • Belt Size: the Performance 400i is 18” x 50”, the Performance 600i is 18” x 55” and the Performance 800i is 18” x 60”.
  • Display: Although all of the models have built-in smart HD touchscreens, these vary in size via the model, starting at 7” for the 400i, increasing to 10” for the 600i, and 14” for the 800i.
  • Motor power: The 400i has a CHP of 2.0 making it ideal for walking. The 600i has slightly more power with a 2.5 CHP motor, making it a bit better suited to jogging than the 400i. The 800i has a 2.75 CHP drive, making it the best model for jogging across this Series.
  • Incline/Decline: All models offer a maximum 10% incline, but the 800i also offers a -2 powered decline.
  • Top speed: The 400i and 600i models have high speeds of 0–10 mph, and the 800i can go up to 12 mph.
  • Weight capacity: The 400i and 600i have a maximum weight capacity of 300 lb. and the 800i can take up to 315 lb.
  • Fan: The 400i doesn’t have a workout fan like the other two models do.

Overall we wouldn’t consider the 400i to be a dependable trainer. The 600i is worth considering if your treadmill budget is just below the $1,000 mark and you’d like to use iFit Coach. The ProForm Smart Performance 800i is a solid, affordable machine for walking and light jogging. The combination of its power decline/incline and 14” screen on which you can enjoy iFit workouts in full view and clarity means that you will be well motivated and entertained for years to come.

ProForm Treadmill Desks

ProForm Treadmill Desks make multitasking easy. By slowly strolling as you take calls or work on your computer, you can burn hundreds of extra calories every day. Jogging and running are options too. ProForm desk treadmills have long tracks and respectable belt motors. Forty preset workout programs are included too, so you can start training right away. What’s more, these trainers are ready to use upon arrival, no assembly required!

The two choices are the Thinline Treadmill Desk and the Thinline Treadmill Desk Pro. A nice feature of each is the convertible desktop where you can exercise with a view of the 7″ color screen or you can fold the screen down to have a completely flat work surface. Other specs include automated incline and decline (-3% to 12%), 40 built-in workouts, wireless heart rate monitoring, 7″ data screens, iFit availability, and a dock for your tablet computer.

Which desk treadmill is best for you? The Thinline Pro is a bit more powerful with 3.0 CHP instead of 2.75 CHP. So if you intend to run more than walk or jog, it’s a better choice. Another advantage of the ProForm Thinline Pro is adjustable height, making it best for homes with one or more shorter-than-average trainees.

ProForm Fitness Company Profile

ProForm is an extension of Weslo, an import company formed by Utah State University business majors in the late 1970s. Weslo initially imported a variety of raw materials and finished products. Their most successful products were wood-burning stoves, but sales were limited to wintertime. To balance this seasonal product the company added small trampolines and branded them with a new label, ProForm Fitness. Weslo and ProForm Fitness then expanded to offer exercise bikes, ellipticals, and other home fitness equipment. Decades later ProForm was instrumental in the founding of ICON Health & Fitness.

Today ICON owns many fitness brands and is the world’s largest manufacturer of fitness equipment. It is based in Utah and owns many production plants. Currently, ProForm treadmills and other ICON products are all produced overseas. Customer service is based in the USA.
