Intro

Schwinn A40

Priced at $399, the Schwinn A40 elliptical will attract many thanks to its low price tag.

The elliptical offers Eddy Current Braking Resistance, eight resistance levels and 17 inches for stride. The Schwinn A40 also offers multi-function LCD display and built-in pulse grips for heart rate monitoring.

Unfortunately, $400 is not much in the exercise world and Schwinn definitely sacrificed the quality of parts to build the A40. It’s noticeable and durability of the trainer is certainly questionable.

– Compact, fits in almost any room (only 90 lbs)
– Multi-function LCD display
– Built-in cooling fan for comfort
– Stride length (17″) good for smaller users

Cons:
– Poor warranty coverage (especially on frame)
– Average number of pre-defined workout programs
– Very few electronics (mp3 port, speakers, etc)

Introduction

The Schwinn A40 is designed to provide a low-impact workout with a perimeter-weighted, high-inertia flywheel.

The elliptical runs fairly smoothly, but there are certainly questions about the durability and ultimate longevity of the trainer.

Regardless, there are a few highlights including users getting the option of eight different resistance levels, a decent range for an elliptical in the Under $500 price range.

Workout Programs

The Schwinn A40 is battery-operated and supports seven different pre-defined programs.

The workout interface offers a little customization and the data is displayed nicely on the LCD screen, which includes readouts for time, RPM, distance, pulse, speed, calories, resistance level and course profile.

Aside from the pre-defined workout variety, the Schwinn A40 has very little to offer in terms of programs and is not compatible with iFit Live.

Elliptical Features

This elliptical is pretty compact and fairly easy to move around with a weight of 90.4 lbs.

In terms of bare essentials, the Schwinn A40 is obviously not the most impressive elliptical on the market, but the eight levels of resistance, 17 inch stride and heart rate sensors will satisfy recreational users.

You will notice that the A40 elliptical cut corners with the quality of parts and their confidence is reflected in only offering consumers a 6 month guarantee.

The oversized console also features a reading rack, water bottle holder and integrated two-speed cooling fan.

The A40 breaks its features into three categories: Comfort, Performance & Feedback. Bio-mechanically designed linkages provide a comfortable and natural foot motion that work well with the ergonomic handles for multiple workout positions.

Lastly, oversized stabilizers and levelers are built-in to the trainer for a solid workout platform.

Warranty & Guarantee

The Schwinn A40 elliptical warranty and guarantee includes:

– Frame: 2 Years
– Parts: 6 Months
– Electronics: 6 Months
– Wear Parts: 30 Days

Conclusion

The Schwinn A40 will please just about anyone thanks to its low price, but the durability of the elliptical is questionable. If you can afford something better you might want to consider an alternative.
