Hi! I'm

Kyle, have you seen the ACT as opposed to the ACT pro, how does it stack up.
Thanks!!
Sue
Hi Sue!
The biggest difference is the 20 lb flywheel (compared to the Pro’s 23 lb flywheel).
They’re pretty close, but the Pro also has a MUCH better warranty (5 years instead of 1 year). Plus, sometimes they offer free “Bronze” delivery on the Pro, so that can make it a better deal.
Overall, I would go with the Pro for power and long term value.
Hope that helps,
Kyle
Last year I purchased a NordicTrack A.C.T. Pro Elliptical during the after Thanksgiving sales, paid extra for professional setup & delivery including the extended warranty. It took a month for delivery & setup, after using the device for a little over 3 months it began to make various squeaking & squealing noises from various parts of the machine. I called the customer care number provided which is contracted out to an Icon health & fitness inc. the 1st question I was asked was if I had paid to have it put together. They then begrudgingly sent out a tech who tightened it up but did not fix the problems. Now after a year of being stalled due to they could find no records of my calls, that a tech would be contacting me shortly, or they were waiting on parts to be sent. The problem has never been fixed although they have now sent out a total of four techs to work on the machine. the last tech noticed a broken washer and that several of the bolts are now so stripped out he could not get it apart to replace the parts they had sent. Icon says they have turned it over to NordicTrack for remediation yet I have not heard from them & they will not post my comments on there website either! So my rating is definately no stars!!!!
Hi George,
Thanks for your feedback! I’m really sorry to hear that this poor customer support ruined what could have been great with a quality machine like the ACT Pro. Icon really needs to work on this area to make things easier for their customers.
Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience with us.
Have a great day,
Kyle
This is a great and sturdy machine. Not too bad putting it together either. My only problem is with the electronics. It says I only go a 1/4 mile in 6:30 keeping the RPMs above 70. At my gym, same time and speed would be close to 1 mile. Not good for the ego for sure…
Thanks for the feedback Bryan!
I’m not sure what’s causing that, honestly, though a lot of the electronics are programmed differently.
I’m a stickler for numbers myself, but with things like this I try to tell myself that as long as I’m going the distance I want and working hard the whole time, the workout will be a good one!
Have a great day,
Kyle
Is is correct that Nordic Track does not provide any electronics warranty on the ACT Pro?
Hi Mary,
That’s correct, the standard warranty on the A.C.T. does not cover electronics.
Happy new year,
Kyle
How much space does it need when at full stride? I guess 54″ is the resting footprint, not the max length when in use. Thanks!
Hi Kevin,
I would recommend allowing for about 6 feet or so, 7 feet max, to allow some extra room.
Width-wise, you’ll only need about 4 feet, and with an 8 feet ceiling you’ll be fine in terms of height, even at the pedals’ highest point (assuming you’re not 7 feet tall
).
Have a good day,
Kyle
Hi kyle – I am 6 feet tall – my significant other is 5 feet tall. Would we both be able to use it comfortably?
Hi Grant,
That’s really close to my wife and I, so I totally understand!
Major manufacturers design these machines to accommodate common heights, so you should both be comfortable.
In this particular case, the A.C.T. Pro has a lot of options for the handles, which makes things even easier for both of you. The main handles are quite tall, and very long, so both of you will be able to find a comfortable part to grip.
Let me know if you have any other questions!
Have a great day,
Kyle
How do I know what stride I should have it set to 18, 20 or 22
Hi Doreen,
It’s all based on comfort, which is typically determined by your height (and the length of your legs).
As a general rule of thumb, the 18″ stride length should be comfortable if you’re under 5’6″. The 20″ stride length is usually best for those in the 5’6″ to 6″ 2″ range, and 22″ is usually used by those that are 6′ 3″ or taller.
This is all a personal preference though, so this general guideline does not apply to everyone, especially because some of us have longer or shorter legs/strides than other people of the same height.
I hope that helps!
Kyle
